America East Response to UAlbany-Binghamton Men’s Lacrosse Altercation

March 22, 2021

Following an altercation that occurred during the March 20, 2021 conference men’s lacrosse game between the University at Albany and Binghamton University, the America East Conference has conducted a thorough review of the incident, including an examination of available video and officiating reports along with discussions with the league’s Coordinator of Officials and administrators from both institutions. The Conference's review has resulted in the following actions:
  • Six student-athletes have been suspended for a violation of America East Bylaw 9.4.4 and Administrative Policies II-A governing sporting conduct.
    • Binghamton student-athlete Nicholas Imburgia shall serve a two-game suspension.
    • UAlbany student-athletes Elijah Gash, Tehoka Nanticoke and Steve Ramirez along with Binghamton student-athletes Patrick Murad and Jarrett Piccione shall each serve one-game suspensions.
  • Both the UAlbany and Binghamton men's lacrosse programs have been issued a public reprimand for their conduct, which is in violation of America East's bylaws and policies on sporting conduct. Such behavior poses a potential health and safety concern to other student-athletes and themselves and is negatively reflects upon their teams, institutions and the conference.
  • All parties are hereby put on notice that any future unsporting conduct shall be subject to additional disciplinary measures.

The America East expects its student-athletes and coaches to be mindful of their behavior and conduct at all times. We also support an environment that protects the health and safety of our teams. The well-being of our student-athletes is paramount and we will be vigilant to ensure that is not compromised.

Updated March 27, 2021: Following an additional review, it was clarified that Binghamton’s Kyle Tiernan and Max Verch were not involved in the bench altercation; therefore, they have been removed from the list of players subject to conference action.
